You are invited to take part in this year’s harvest events including harvest party with food, live music, lantern making, guided walk around the Fruit Route, apple pressing and harvesting and the NEW Campus Apple Bake Off. (see Bake off flyer at end of post) . Anyone can take part in the bake off,  just pop into the Student Union Executive Office, EHB building foyer anytime on Thursday 16 or Friday 17 October or come to The Shed, Car Park 5 on Friday between 12-6pm and pick up some freshly harvested campus apples. Make these in to any sweet dish at home and bring it along to be tasted by our  judging panel on Saturday 18th at 3.30pm as part of our day long harvest event on Saturday 18th (see below for events schedule).  Some recipe suggestions can be found here and please contact me so I can add your suggestions. Great prizes on offer including: a limited edition artwork, fair-trade food hamper, jar of exclusive Campus Honey (did you know the campus has bee hives?), The Apple Source book a fantastic book all about apples created by arts organisation Common Ground and of course huge kudos and celebrity status!

Thursday 16th

11-2 Harvesting on campus leaving from Student Union or call Anne-Marie 0784 9073394 to come and join us. We will be 5 minutes from the Student Union

Friday 17th October

Pick up apples for Campus Apple Bake Off – Edward Herbert Bulding or Student Union Executive Office or call Benji Apple pressing at The LAGS garden, The Shed, Car Park 5 (with Transition Loughborough) 12-1 and 1-2 apple pressing with specific group/department (pre-booked) 2-5 Public apple pressing at the Shed. Come along and make your own juice, bring your own apples or press campus apples for juice and cider

Saturday 18th October

All events meet at LAGS Garden, The Shed, Car Park 5

12 (midday) backtoback walk around the Fruit Route with Anne-Marie Culhane + Simone Kenyon. The new campus Fruit Route, approximately 1km, now has over 120 new trees from a prolific cordoned apricot to a fruiting almond. Come and walk the route and experience the campus in a different way with two artists. Anne-Marie is creator of the Fruit Route project and is also a performer and visual artist. Simone Kenyon  has been working as an artist, performer and producer for the past 15 years. She works alone and in collaboration with others on projects that usually incorporate dance, theatre, walking and journeying. Nottingham’s Dance 4 supported her choreographic city walking project ‘Step by Step’ that took place as part of Nottdance and Lincoln Dances festival

1.30pm Warming soup for walkers kindly provided by LAGS (Landscaping & Gardening Society)

2-5pm Apple pressing  Come along and make your own juice with the Transition Loughborough Apple Press. Bring your own apples or press campus apples for juice and cider. Please bring clean glass or plastic bottles with lids.

2-5pm Lantern making with the fab Charnwood Arts, pumpkin carving and creative apple games with Paul Conneally (artist)

3.30-4pm Fruit Routes Campus Apple Bake Off tasting and award ceremony

5pm onwards bonfire followed by food, barbeque and live music with an almost acoustic set from Careen

This event is organised with LAGS (Landscaping & Gardening Society who have a thriving fruit and veg garden on campus and meet weekly to socialise and garden and run regular workshops);  the Sustainability Team at the University and the Environment & Ethics Officer in the Student Union (thanks Benji!) and Transition Loughborough (bringing together people of all backgrounds to work towards a more sustainable and resilient Loughborough in an era of resource depletion and changing climate).
